Anthony Zeli is owner, publisher, and editor of The West End News.
The West End News (WEN) is a monthly print newspaper circulating from Saco to Freeport, with a focus on community news in downtown Portland, Maine. WEN brings readers a balance of news and editorial content along with events, food, wine, travel, word puzzles, local trivia, and much more. WEN distributes to over 20,000 readers … for free. WEN is funded by local advertisers and readers. We are deeply grateful for their support of community news.
Anthony Zeli publishes, edits, writes for, distributes, and keeps the News going! And he’s been doing it since 2014. Before purchasing The West End News from founding publisher Ed King, Tony advocated for worker health and safety and was active in progressive politics at the local level.
“I want my readers to be a part of the newspaper and feel empowered to share their ideas. You never know what we might be able to fit into the next issue!” Tony told WEN contributor Liz Trice in an interview in 2017, “Local News is Important.” Tony continues to run the News with this in mind. He organizes volunteer contributors, freelance writers, and community organizations to submit their stories. Without volunteers, the News could not thrive.
