In early January, the West End News reported that Constellation Gallery would close their doors at the end of the month. With the arrival of February, the Gallery is selling gallery panels, display racks, office furniture, equipment and art.
“Right now we are having a fire sale. Everything has to go for us to be moved out on time,” said David Marshall, the West End’s district Councilor and President of the Maine Artist Collective, the organization that runs the gallery.
During the month of December the owners of the building hosting Constellation Gallery announced that the gallery space was under contract to be leased to another tenant. While Constellation Gallery is closing, Maine Artist Collective will continue.
The collective is selling off gallery panels for displaying work, gallery display racks, chairs, frames, mats, office equipment, and art.
“Everything must go by the end of Tuesday [February 3rd],” said Marshall. If interested, email the collective, gallery@constellation.com.
Maine Artist Collective is planning gallery shows across the state in different locations beginning in the summer and running through the holiday season. The traveling shows will offer opportunities to members to exhibit their work in new locations.
The collective also plans a new website and blog that will show the different exhibits online, as well as highlight the work of their members and promote educational opportunities.
“We had a great five year opportunity at the Constellation Gallery,” said Marshall. “Unfortunately, this unexpected transition has hit us financially and we’d like to remind folks that [Maine Artist Collective] is a 501c3, any donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible.”
