The 2015 cruise season is heading into its peak in Portland with 10 cruise ships scheduled to call to port over the next two weeks. The 10 ships will bring more than 16,000 passengers to Portland as they spend the day in port. Fifty-one ships alone are scheduled in September and October.
This Saturday, September 5th, the Grandeur of the Seas, carrying 2,000 passengers and 790 crew, will be in port at Ocean Gateway for the day. On September 9th more than 5,000 passengers will be in Portland for the day with the Carnival Splendor, carrying 2,974 passengers and 1160 crew, in port at the Portland Ocean Terminal, and the Summit, carrying 2,038 passengers and 997 crew, in port at Ocean Gateway. Then on September 12th, almost 6,000 passengers will in Portland for the day with the arrival of the Liberty of the Seas (the largest ship Portland has ever hosted), carrying 3,643 passengers and 1,360 crew, at Ocean Gateway, and the Norwegian Dawn, carrying 2,224 passengers and 1,000 crew, at Portland Ocean Terminal.
Once again this season, the City’s port continues to experience an increase in cruise ship visits and total number of passengers. In total, the 2015 cruise season will host 84 cruise ships carrying more than 97,000 passengers between May and November. The 2014 season hosted 74 cruise ships carrying more than 82,000 passengers. The population of the City of Portland is approximately 66,000.
