In low turnout, Portland school budget passes by large margin
The unofficial results for the Portland Public Schools budget referendum are in:
Question 1 Yes 921 No 558
Question 2 Yes 802 No 676
Questions 1 asked voters if they would approve the Portland school budget as recommended by the School Board and City Council. With 62% of the vote, the budget passed handily. Turnout was very low for this May referendum vote. Small turnouts and a large margin of support are historically the case with the school budget referendum elections.
Question 2 asked voters if they would like to continue to hold a referendum vote on the school budget for the next three years. Again the answer was a solid yes, with 54% of the vote.
