Public Services is currently in the process of installing new street maintenance parking restriction signs in order to reduce the number of times that residents have to move their cars. The installation process is expected to be completed by May 1st.
Residents should be on the lookout for these new signs if they live on the peninsula or the Nathan Clifford neighborhood — and are asked to please alert any friends, neighbors, guests, and tenants.
Right now, parking is restricted on one side of every street once per week. The new restrictions will only restrict parking on one side of each street two times a month.
These changes are the result of input received over the last few years from constituents in East End and West End, who asked the City to consider reducing daytime and nighttime parking restrictions by fifty percent.
Vehicles will now be moved on either Monday or Tuesday nights depending on the area. This will enable Public Services to provide service on one side of every street in every week.
Days on which the restrictions occur will precede the day that trash and recycling collection takes place. This feature is especially beneficial in the winter months as it allows Public Services the opportunity to widen snow narrowed streets by plowing, re-plowing, and removing snow prior to rubbish collection.
The new signage reflects a time of restriction change that will run from 12:01 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. It is hoped that these signs will be easier to understand than the current signs that read 11:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
In the West End, parking will be prohibited on the odd side of the street on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month, from 12:01 a.m. – 7:00 a.m., and parking will be prohibited on the even side of the street the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays from 12:01 a.m. – 7:00 a.m. There will be no enforcement on the fifth week of the month.
In Parkside, Thursday daytime parking restrictions will remain unchanged. Parking will remain to be prohibited on the odd side of the street on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and parking will be prohibited on the even side of the street on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
