PERSPECTIVES FROM THE SKY – ASTROLOGICAL FORECAST DECEMBER 2017
by Leo Knighton Tallarico
Hard to believe another year is ending. And what a year it has been.
On the one hand, many people have gotten quite depressed thanks to the Trump administration.
On the other hand, many people are awakening to the need to change the world: to stand up to authority and bullies, to break down bigotry and prejudice, to call out abuse of power, to increase health care protections and promote fairness in the economy.
More deeply, we feel the horrible dangers of weapons of mass destruction, stirring the need to change the paradigm away from survival of the fittest.
As we let go of this challenging year of 2017, we can keep the perspective that we need to transform our world. This transformation can be a continuation of the transformative ’60s and transformational late ’80s and early ’90s.
Consider, Trump is the new Nixon. And so many great changes happened then, in contrast to the world the Nixon Administration sought.
Now, again, we are shifting in a big revolutionary and evolutionary way. We may anticipate the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.
This past year brought increasing intensity and challenge and with it desires for big change.
The Total Solar Eclipse in August 2017 brought us Charlottesville culture wars and North Korean war rhetoric. That brought more awareness to what needs to transform in our world – the Old Paradigm connected to the Old World and Age.
We are poised now for large changing tides of world experience, as well as big changes in our personal lives.
Sometimes we feel dark and negative about our world as it looks like the old ways will continue. But other times we feel hopeful as we take our power to make the changes necessary to create a new paradigm and age.
There will be another Eclipse Season in January/February that will shake things up again.
MERCURY RETROGRADE
For now, we enter December 2017 with many important aspects in its early days.
Mars opposes Uranus on December 1st, and on December 3rd we experience a Full Moon in Gemini and Mercury going Retrograde.
Mars opposite Uranus promises outside the box liberation from stuck places in the mind or in one’s life. That aspect also suggests threats of world events that shake up the conventional same-old, same-old world. If there is not a big event, look for clues as to what is changing to liberate us from old attitudes and ways.
There is a Full Moon in Gemini on December 3rd at 10:47 AM EST. This Full Moon has the Sun in Sagittarius opposite the Moon in Gemini and both squared by Neptune.
That along with Mercury going Retrograde on December 3rd at 2:34 AM EST, promises some confusion and lack of clarity on what is going on.
Clear communication is necessary as there is potential then for people hearing differently from what one is trying to say.
Thinking and communication are in the spotlight, and some will be overwhelmed trying to find resolution, clarity, perspective and meaning in talks or situations.
Remember that during Mercury Retrograde there is often a rewinding into memories or people from the past. There is also often a reconsidering of previously determined decisions or chosen directions. And it prompts us to reflect more on issues before deciding or resolving.
Conventional logic is not your best friend during Mercury Retrograde. More holistic ways of looking at situations are better.
Do your best – unless you must – not to make big decisions, take big risks or do new big projects.
If you must, see it as meant to be and let it go out of your mind.
WINTER SOLSTICE
After that weekend with Mercury Retrograde and the Full Moon, we will experience the waning phase of the lunar cycle. Time to wind down activities and prepare for the next new moon, which will bring in another turning point of shifting energies.
That new moon is a New Moon in Sagittarius and is on December 18th. Winter Solstice closely follows on December 21st, and Mercury goes back Direct again on December 22nd.
Yes, Winter Solstice is about experiencing the darkest time of the year. But, it also represents a shift back to the light. After all, from that time on, there is more light every day until Summer Solstice.
Winter Solstice is on the 21st at 11:28 AM EST. It begins as always, with the Sun being in Capricorn, a sign of gravity and the limitations caused by time. It prompts us to get more organized, more serious, more disciplined, and to control our destiny through accomplishment and by taking responsibility.
The New Moon in Sagittarius is on December 18th at 1:30 AM EST.
This new moon brings more potential for joy and upliftment, more inspiration, better intuition. Find potential for more answers and meaning. Just be alert, and do not leap before you look.
And then many will feel better as Mercury goes Direct on the 22nd. This is when the fog should begin to lift, and clarity begin to appear. But it will take a few days, or even about 10 days or so, before you know for sure what to do and what direction to take.
This all leads into the holidays and then the New Year in 2018. You could very well have a feeling of renewal in the time between December 18th and December 23rd.
And next year will be another powerful year too. Unfortunately, with the threat of downturn in the economy.
We will talk more about that next month for January 2018.
Till then,
Leo
