It’s slated to be a busy weekend in Portland, but don’t have too much fun. There are several concerts at the Maine State Pier, Shop Second Saturday, Walk the Working Waterfront, the 42nd annual Old Port Festival, and more… But, if it gets too loud, the police will crack down.
The ferris wheel is back up on the waterfront, a clear sign that the Old Port Fest is nigh.
Portland has become a unique place for musicians to visit and perform. This week three concerts are scheduled at the Maine State Pier. Last night the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band and Jonny Lang performed, tonight the Wailers and Rusted Root will take the stage on the pier, and Saturday evening David Gray and Rachael Yamagata will entertain.
Officials want residents to know that the City is dedicated to making sure that the performances stay within City noise guidelines. Technical staff will measure the decibels during the concert and around the venue and within the neighborhoods.
If readings are too high, City staff will work with the promoter to adjust levels immediately. Residents can call Police dispatch, 874-8575, if they have a concern about the noise levels. Those calls are forwarded to the officers at the concert and relayed to the promoter.
