The Friends of Congress Square Park held their Annual Meeting on Wednesday, September 16th. The event was held in the community room of 10 Congress Square Plaza, a retirement home near Congress Square Park.
The choice of 10 Congress Square was due to the remarkable amount of volunteers that live in the apartment building. Residents from 10 Congress Square have logged hundreds of hours of volunteer time in Congress Square Park.
Over the past year, the Friends of Congress Square Park have organized over 120 events that helped to attract over 8000 visitors to the park. It was made possible through private donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, and over a thousand hours of volunteer time.
Volunteers from all walks of life and from every corner of the city helped to make Congress Square Park a downtown hotspot. But the 16 volunteers from 10 Congress Square earned a special thank you from the organization. They made up a crucial segment of reliable and ever-present volunteers that made the recent revitalization of Congress Square Park possible.
Friends of Congress Square Park will continue to host events at the square through October and possibly beyond. The last big event is slated to be a pumpkin carving contest on October 25th. After a winter hiatus, the Congress Square Park event season will begin again in May 2016.
