Astrology, for many of you reading this, is either new to you or seems like superstition or silliness. This is in large part because of how the mainstream media and shallow people have reduced it to innocuous Sun sign columns in newspapers or “what’s your sign” triviality.
Astrology has a rich history, being especially respected during the Renaissance. There was a day when astronomy and astrology were united, as people like Galileo, were both astrologers and astronomers.
Religion helped to break the back of serious astrology, trying to monopolize all other spiritual ways of being on the Earth. Many quite sacred and profound ways of connecting with “spirit” were trashed and called witchery or pagan in a most derogatory manner.
Though some pagan and witch ways were sometimes about sacrifices and potions and curses, there was a “throwing out the baby with the bathwater.” Many sacred rituals, natural seasonal passages and lunar cycles, and healing herbs, have always contained wisdom for our human family.
And astrology is really about nature, and the cycles and symbols that show a connection between the heavens of the sky and our earthly human endeavors.
There is a revival now of humans making individual and direct connection with “spirit” and its mysteries, beyond the control of organized religion’s paradigm.
Most religions had their origins in “spirit” and the “mysteries,” but before long they were put in the hands of those who sought control through rules and laws… and guilt.
Now as we move into an Age of Aquarius, individuals are breaking the chains of those who seek to control our lives. And this passing year of 2014 has brought many events that are shaking the structures that have dominated human life on Earth.
There has been much shakeup of our world this year, and planetary movements are reflective of that change. A very rare Cardinal Grand Cross, mixed with eclipses and transformational planets Uranus and Pluto brought us changes that threaten the current paradigm we live under.
State boundaries that have been imposed on other countries, especially in the Middle East and Ukraine, are being altered.
The Islamic State and Russia have had much to do with such recent change.
Western Civilization arbitrarily contrived borders for Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and others after World War I. Israel was dropped in the middle of Arab states in 1948.
National borders in general are rather arbitrary and often have not been honoring of tribal and native existence. There will be a continuation of transformation of boundaries and rules for living on this Earth.
As we move into an Aquarian Age, leaving behind a Pisces Age that began at around the time of the Christ, over 2000 years ago, many great changes of living conditions and consciousness will continue.
We are evolving into beings who can respect and get along with one another on this globe called the Earth. And if we do not evolve in such a way, with weapons of mass destruction rampant all over the globe, we will cease to exist.
So this transition between ages now is crucial. And events that push us to transform and evolve will continue to play out. A militaristic world joined by an economic system that fosters greed and selfishness cannot hold such a new vision, age, and paradigm.
Eventually “we the people” will be responsible for this Earth, its creatures, and our human family’s health. Corporations, governments, dictators, and others who take away the ability of “the people” to be free to govern this world will need to be released.
Each time there are powerful planetary configurations, as there have been this year, there are shakeups of personal and global realities, so status quo can be undone and change can be made.
The recent elections, which turned quite conservative, are a temporary obstruction based on a desire to go backwards where it feels more secure. Hard line attitudes give the impression that threats can be halted. Ebola, Islamic State and the reality of the economy have been freaking people out this year.
During the ‘60s revolution Richard Nixon was elected President at the height of the war and all the revolution, so the “silent majority” could feel safer during all the chaos of change.
Uranus and Pluto now, and through next year, are catalysts for such change again. Especially during late winter this year and spring next year there will be powerful astrological events that include Uranus and Pluto.
Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in the mid ‘60s, and that brought on the ‘60s revolution. As Uranus and Pluto reconnect from 2011- 2016, there are energies that show a spiking of revolutionary and evolutionary movement.
Arab Spring, the Occupy movement, the original Tea Party intentions, Eric Snowden, Julian Assange, Palestinian uprisings, LGBT civil rights, Gay/Lesbian marriage, Ferguson, Missouri, and an African American President, represent such revolutionary breakouts.
Many people are having spiritual awakenings, that have little to do with traditional religion, which shows an evolution of consciousness that fosters a movement toward more love, meaning, and unity on this Earth.
An Aquarian Age is inherently about equality, liberation, freedom, social consciousness, and Diversity moving into Unity.
Autumn 2014 has brought a continuation of changing winds in the world and in our personal lives. Many of us have had personal events this year that have motivated us to leave an old chapter of our lives, and to enter into a new chapter.
That movement continues through this autumn, so if there are any old patterns or beliefs, people or jobs or homes that represent what needs to die in your life, let it go so you can enter a more healthy and happy season of your life.
There is a New Moon in Sagittarius on November 22nd, that can potentially light a fire under you through inspiration, new ideas, a renewed sense of meaning in your life, a desire for adventure, or a provocative event.
New Moons are times when the Sun and Moon are together in the Sky, and Full Moons are when the Sun and Moon are opposite to one another.
A New Moon brings energy to get started or get moving, especially after the first sight of a moon sliver in the sky. Often during the few days leading up to a New Moon (called a dark moon time) there can be a feeling of depression or at least introspection.
So hopefully this New Moon in Sagittarius will bring some positive feeling into your heart and life, which for many will be a great relief.
Mercury, which was retrograde (looking like it is going backwards in the sky) during most of October, is back Direct now.
That means that any difficulty you had in seeing things clearly or in making any important decisions during Mercury Retrograde, has been alleviated. You should be able to “see” more clearly now and pick a direction to move in.
Uranus will make exact square again to Pluto on December 15. We will discuss that at our next installment next month.
