As I write this on December 16, 2014, we have just passed another Uranus square Pluto exact aspect on December 15th. This is the 6th of 7 exact squares between Uranus and and Pluto from 2012-2015.
The last pass between them will be in March 2015. We have written in WEN in previous columns that Uranus and Pluto made exact conjunctions with one another in 1965-1966, and that that planetary aspect signified the beginning of the ‘60s revolution.
And now as those two powerful transformational planets are making their first major contacts with one another since the ‘60s, that there is more powerful transformation taking us to further revolution and evolution of consciousness.
There have been crises in Ferguson and in New York and elsewhere concerning abusive behavior by police toward African American males in America. Civil Rights issues were very prominent during the ‘60s revolutionary period and they are now too.
And Muslims are the new civil rights issue brewing over much of America, Europe and Australia and elsewhere.
On the day of the Uranus/Pluto square this month, there was a man claiming to be Muslim and apparently empathetic toward the Islamic State, who kept hostage several people in a cafe in Sydney, Australia. He was ultimately killed, and so were two of the hostages.
As this tragedy was unfolding, a new movement was being started on social media: The “I will ride with you” movement that shows solidarity with Muslims who may be discriminated against worldwide.
During this new revolutionary time period with Uranus and Pluto, there has been an Arab Spring, which has been showing a revolutionary spirit in Arab and North African countries.
The Middle East is drastically changing, as borders are being transformed. And there is a cultural war that has been developing between Judeo-Christian culture and Muslim culture.
But there are people all over the world who do not want these wars and instead are fighting to awaken people to a new consciousness that seeks to bring together people all over the world into a sense of One Earth Human Family.
This movement fosters the movement into an Age of Aquarius, one where Diversity into Unity is the new reality.
As we move through another Uranus square Pluto aspect and give vision to the next one March 16, 2015, we for now enter a major annual turning point of the year: Winter Solstice.
Winter Solstice is the day that signifies a turning to more light. On Winter Solstice, which this year is on December 21st at 6:03 p.m., it is the day of most dark minutes. Then right after that the Winter Solstice moment, light minutes continue growing until Spring Equinox when dark and light are equal, then Summer Solstice when light minutes are at their zenith.
The days leading up to Winter Solstice can feel very dark for people and it is more easy to become depressed. It is wise at this time of year to find time to be alone, to meditate, to be in touch with one’s feelings as long as there is not a dwelling on darker more negative feelings or thoughts.
Then on Winter Solstice, which was an inspiration for Christmas being around that time of year (a turning to the light of hope for the world), there is a subtle turn to more positive feeling.
And this year there will be more planetary help for seeing light at the end of the tunnel of darker feelings as there is a New Moon (new beginnings) also on December 21st at 8:36 p.m.
And the planet of “awakening”, Uranus, will be prominent as it changes to Direct movement on December 21st.
So if you have been feeling very “down” leading up to Winter Solstice, be present for at least a subtle turning to more positiveness.
The global news has been very dreary and grave recently, as there are many mass murders, a downturn in the stock market, and a view of the world that seems rather bleak at times.
But remember that this process of revolution and evolution now, as in the ‘60s and ‘70s, will be bringing us a combination of ugly events along with signs of people awakening to the need for changing this world.
The old world has a paradigm largely built on the notion that there is little meaning to the Universe or our lives, and that a dog-eat-dog, every man for himself or for his kind mentality rules.
It also teaches us that some people (our people) and ways of life are superior to others. Better human values often seem to not matter much in that world, like kindness, dignity, self respect, empathy, truth and love.
Each of us, however, can be what we want to see in the world. And that will change the world, as well as protests and a joining with others of like mind.
On December 23rd Saturn, the planet of Time, Grounding, Lessons, and Building Accomplishments, will change from Scorpio to Sagittarius, where it will stay for about 2 and a half years. Mutable sign people with Sun in Sagittarius, Virgo, Pisces, and Gemini will be learning new lessons, and feeling more motivated to reign themselves in so they can manifest more in their lives and in the world.
On New Year’s Eve/ New Year’s Day there is a rather spirited Mars opposite Jupiter aspect. For some this will mean positive feelings and expressions. For others this will mean it is a good time to party. But for some this rising spirit will give them an excuse to leap into things that are more destructive.
And on January 4th there will be a Full Moon in Cancer on at 11:53 p.m. It will be a strongly felt and transformational Full Moon as Uranus and Pluto will make aspect to it.
Likely personal issues around family will be in the spotlight, as well as women’s issues and a need to balance inner values with more outer directed ones.
Next Month’s Perspectives from the Sky column will take an astrological look at the New Year 2015.
Till next month,
Leo
