On Monday, December 7th, at 8:53 a.m. a suspicious package was discovered in the lobby of the office building located at 100 Middle Street. Middle Street from Franklin Street to Pearl Street was closed.
The building was evacuated while the Portland Police Hazardous Devices Unit inspected the package. A police dog assisted by searching the general area. Shortly before 11:00 AM the package was deemed safe and building occupants were allowed to return. The street was reopened around the same time.
On Tuesday, December 8th, at about 6:00 p.m., an arrest was made in connection to the suspicious package. Sixty-four year old George A. Dimauro was arrested at his residence at 409 Cumberland Avenue. Dimauro is charged with terrorizing, a class C felony.
Dimauro is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
Although Dimauro is in custody, the investigation is ongoing.
