Perspectives from the Sky
The astrological forecast for August 2016 takes us from fun loving Leo to discerning Virgo.
by Leo Knighton Tallarico
In August we move from fun loving Leo to discerning and orderly Virgo. And that’s just in the first week. But first a brief recap of the previous month.
July was a very intense and emotional month. It was filled with world events that were mostly horrific.
There were mass murder attacks in Nice, Orlando, Turkey…
There were the Democrat and Republican conventions to nominate candidates for President. For many people the two party system is broken. The vote for President will be for who is the lesser of two evils.
From a positive standpoint the Bernie Sanders movement has sparked the idealism of thousands of people, many young, who were in the past disinterested.
Also from a most positive standpoint the Libertarian and Green parties and their Presidential candidates are getting much more exposure than usual — not enough but a big improvement.
So the political future shows some promise even if the present may look rather bleak.
This is all connected to the changing of Ages. We are on the cusp of a New Age in Aquarius. The process apparently demands we witness again the paradigm of “dog eat dog, get as much for yourself as you can” before we release that mindset for a better way in the future.
We can expect more and more horrific events for a while. The old world continues to decay and will eventually die. We watch as Rome burns.
Old boundaries and country demarcations are changing. We are witnessing a return mentality to nationalism like in the 1930’s.
Chaos and anarchy are energetically opposed to forceful order and potential fascism. Hopefully that weed does not grow very strongly. Instead we move soon to the Age of Aquarius, flower of Diversity within Unity for all over the world.
August starts out with the ancient turning point celebration of Lammas. Lammas is on August 1st and represents a midpoint between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox. It signifies the abundance of the harvest.
On August 2nd there is a New Moon in Leo at 4:45 PM EDT. Leo at its best is heartfelt and creative. At its worst it is self-centered and egotistical.
So have some creative heart opening fun. Try to stay clear of big egos in yourself or others.
This is a new moon, so it represents new beginnings. Since fun loving Leo is a fire sign the new beginnings could be powerful.
On August 5th Venus leaves fun loving Leo and enters orderly and discerning Virgo. Venus represents relationship orientation. Your important relationships may need to be looked at more closely so you can improve them. Venus stays in Virgo for about a month.
On August 13th “hand of time” and gravity inducing Saturn goes from Retrograde to Direct.
Symbolically the clock starts ticking again. A feeling of fate and fated events may be in the air. Since Saturn is also gravity it requires free spirits and everyone else to meet responsibilities and do what they have to do.
On August 18th there is Full Moon in Leo/Aquarius at 5:27 AM EDT. This lunation symbolically opens Eclipse Season. The next major lunation is a Solar Eclipse New Moon in Virgo.
Energetically our experience will begin to be intensified and major turning point world events will erupt in our lives for the next six to ten weeks.
The Leo/Aquarius New Moon on August 18th will bring a test of head versus heart. Fun loving Leo is heart and Aquarius is head. Leo is creative, yet tends to be quite self-centered. Aquarius is quite bright mentally and sees social structures with a group mentality. Leo tends to do what is popular while Aquarius strives to be a distinct individual.
So around this full moon, see if you can balance your heart and personal needs with your head and social consciousness.
On August 22nd the Sun moves into Virgo. Virgo is about work, order, discernment, analysis, and seeking of perfection. It is the Virgin but that is not about sex. It is about purity and perfection. Virgos have to be careful that they do not get too self-critical or obsessed with life’s material concerns.
It is time to begin to leave fun loving Leo and begin Virgo work. The kids are getting ready to go back to school. Adults are getting ready to leave the beach and vacations. Virgo time is also a good time to repair, do maintenance and fix that which has been broken. It is also a good time for doctor and dentist appointments and to create more order to your home and life.
To add to this theme, we begin a 4th quarter lunar phase and Mars making a sobering aspect to Saturn on the 24th.
It is time to tone down, process what has been experienced and get ready for strong new beginnings on September 1st at the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo.
On August 30th Mercury goes Retrograde again. As always it means that our way of perceiving reality will be shifting. You may question decisions you previously made. It is not usually a good time to make big decisions or to begin really important ventures. While it is Retrograde some feel as if they entered the Twilight Zone. Also people from one’s past often come back strongly in our thoughts, dreams or in the flesh.
Mercury stays Retrograde until September 22nd, when it goes Direct on the Autumn Equinox.
Mercury Retrograde begins a very important time period. The Solar Eclipse is two days later and a Lunar Eclipse is two weeks later. September will be a most intense month of major events and turning points.
