On Sunday, September 14th at approximately 7:45pm, the Portland Police responded to the area of 1871 Forest Ave for a serious motor vehicle accident involving a 2005 Chevy Impala and a bicyclist.
The bicyclist, Steven Bowie, 43, of Portland, was transported from the scene to Maine Medical Center, and has since been released. The operator of the vehicle, Steven Bickford, 61, of Westbrook, was not injured.
Mr. Bowie was struck on his bicycle as he crossed the roadway in the path of the northbound vehicle driven by Mr. Bickford. Speed does not appear to be a factor. According to police, alcohol maybe a factor for the bicyclist.
The incident continues to be under investigation by the Traffic Division. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to call the Portland Police Traffic Division at 874-8532.
