UPDATE ON WEST END AGING IN PLACE
West End Aging in Place (AIP) organizers have decided to join Portland Area Villages (PAV). PAV is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and can provide a business management umbrella for affiliated neighborhood groups (such as West End Aging in Place).
Portland Area Villages
Portland Area Villages seek to empower seniors who wish to remain in their own homes as long as possible. PAV will provide services to members, establish a vetted network of professional providers from which members may draw, provide a comprehensive list of established community services available to members, and enable social connections and activities for members and volunteers. Kinds of services include transportation, light handyman tasks, gardening, shopping, picking up prescriptions and social activities.
The partnership with PAV will enable Aging in Place volunteers in the West End to concentrate efforts on local members needs around social connections and activities. Meanwhile, PAV will help with the hands-on individual needs of members.
AIP is now in the process of figuring out how this will all play out. PAV is in the process of running a pilot project with members who are want individual services and volunteers who are helping them. Aging in Place organizers hope to have more information on this project to share with readers later this summer.
First Monday Sessions Return in Fall
First Monday sessions have stopped for the summer, but several sessions have already been scheduled for this fall. In fact, for scheduling reasons, they will now become the Second Monday sessions. Fall sessions include one on home safety issues and things you can do to make your homes safer, one on volunteering options in the area, and another on all you ever wanted to know about electric cars. Stay tuned for more information as the fall approaches.
Again, if you have any questions email wecanaip@gmail.com.
Enjoy the summer and all the great activities that are offered in the city!
