Construction Crew Brings Potential Bomb to the Police
On the afternoon of December 11th, a local construction crew found what appeared to be a bomb on the job. They brought the suspicious item to the Portland Police Headquarters to seek assistance.
Upon investigation of the item, Police called in the Hazardous Devices Unit, known by most as the bomb squad, and evacuated several buildings in the area. They closed part of Middle Street, and Franklin Arterial between Congress and Fore. People in the surrounding area were not in danger during this time.
The Hazardous Devices Unit ultimately used a robot to explode the item. The area was cleared by 6 p.m.
Police ask that people do not bring suspicious items to them. If found, leave the potential bomb device where it is and call the police. They will come to you and deal with the suspicious item. Do not touch suspected bombs, travel with them, or bring them to the police station.
