FEATURED NONPROFIT
Portland Education Foundation
Portland Education Foundation raises philanthropic support to enhance educational opportunities for students in Portland’s public schools. As an independent nonprofit organization, PEF invests directly in educational programming for the benefit of all Portland public school students.
Like a development office at a private school or a university foundation, Portland Education Foundation seeks private, corporate, and foundation money to help benefit public education. Additionally, the PEF Board of Directors and sole staff person work closely with the school district to ensure alignment of resources with educational priorities. The board includes former school board members, teachers, administrators, and business leaders.
They do not raise funds to cover things already covered by booster clubs and PTOs. Community members should still give to these important groups. But through PEF you can give unrestricted funds or to specific educational programming.
An example of the work they do…
Thanks to a recent gift from the Stephen and Tabatha King Foundation, Portland Education Foundation is distributing $50,000 total to all elementary schools for literacy resources. The new resources emphasize cultural and language expansion.
In another success story, PEF distributed $74,000 to 90 teachers for classroom support. With the funds, teachers bought books, took kids on fields trips, brought in guest speakers, and more. All thanks to privately raised funds.
