Developers have announced a neighborhood meeting to discuss plans for an affordable housing building at 17 Carleton Street.
Well-known and currently very active developer Avesta Housing is planning the project. Avesta specializes in affordable housing and developed many of the affordable housing projects Portlanders are familiar with. Avesta is currently building Washington Avenue Apartments at 134 Washington Avenue, and recently completed the Adams School Condominiums on Munjoy Hill, a controversial 16 townhouse project on the former site of the Adams School.
The plan for 17 Carleton Street would create 37 residential affordable housing units with 31 parking spaces behind the Butler School building.
At the May meeting of the West End Neighborhood Association, neighbors were concerned that the project would be too big for the neighborhood and would not include enough parking.
The meeting will be held at the Reiche School Cafeteria on June 11th at 6 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to introduce the project to neighbors as part of the City approval process.
