The West End Cemetery has had recent construction completed. The fence that surrounded the Cemetery had been in disrepair and was completely removed to make way for a new fence. The project itself was completely funded by Stewards of the Western Cemetery.
Fundraiser for the project and former board member Anne Pringle explained, “For as long as I can remember, approximately 40 years, there was a chain-link fence around the cemetery. It was rusted, bashed in, deflected by trees and generally pretty ugly. The intent was to replace it with something more appropriate to the historic nature of the cemetery.”
The project itself was completed in two phases and cost a total of $30,000. All funds were privately raised by the Stewards of the Western Cemetery.
Information regarding the total number of contributors was not available nor was a listing of exact amounts donated.
The organization itself is a “non-profit organization committed to rehabilitating, protecting and enhancing the condition of the Western Cemetery,” according to their mission statement provided. This group was established in 2004.
