State Street Closure – from Cumberland Avenue to Deering Street – to Start Thursday, November 2nd
Beginning on Thursday, November 2nd, the State Street Infrastructure Improvements project work between Cumberland Avenue and Deering Street will begin. Crews will shutdown the Cumberland Avenue/State Street intersection and State Street from Cumberland Avenue to Deering Street. This work includes the installation of a new sanitary sewer, storm drain, Portland Water District water main and Unitil gas main across the intersection.
IMPORTANT INFO FOR DRIVERS
The City encourages non-local drivers to stay clear of the area and find other avenues into town. Crews will be working between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. However, the closed segment of roadway will not reopen until all of the utility work is complete in about one month.
IMPORTANT INFO FOR RESIDENTS
The contractor will be required to maintain local traffic access onto State Street and the surrounding side streets during this closure.
Inbound State Street traffic will be directed to use Mellen Street to Deering Street to State Street in order to bypass the work zone. Westbound Cumberland Avenue traffic will be directed to detour onto High Street to Park Avenue to Mellen Street. And eastbound Cumberland Avenue traffic will detour to Mellen Street and then take the Deering-State Street Detour to access Congress Street heading east.
