STATE STREET CONSTRUCTION
Utility upgrades will cause the closure of State Street between Congress and Cumberland from 7a to 6p daily for 3 weeks.
On Tuesday, April 26th, State Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic between Cumberland Avenue and Congress Street for utility work including new sewer, new storm drain, new water main and new gas main across State Street at Deering Street.
On Wednesday, April 27th, State Street will begin a daily closure to all traffic between Cumberland Avenue and Congress Street that will last approximately 3 weeks. The closure will run 7 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Complete closure of State Street will occur between Cumberland Avenue and Congress Street. Traffic will be detoured either left or right at that intersection. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes prior to heading “up the hill”.
Drivers are encouraged to utilize alternative routes including Forest Avenue, Deering Avenue and the Fore River Parkway for accessing the Casco Bay Bridge to South Portland. Alternatively, drivers can continue south on the I-295 to the South Portland exits.
R.E. Coleman, Inc. is the contractor that will be placing the new utilities.
